Bend
2019.04
Bend is a chair that embodies a simplistic, yet effective design. With designs becoming more and more iterative from each other, the goal of Bend was to strip anything unnecessary from what can be a chair. By taking away all the elements that can complicate a chair, this chair was able to become something different. An experiment using natural elements. By using the properties of leather and wood, creating a flatpackable design of renewable materials is possible. Bend has gone on to place first in Design for Production at the national AWFS Fresh Wood competition.
Three legs in a wider stance maintain this chair solidly on the ground while the back holds the user in a comfortable position. The back of the chair comes off in one piece that is allowed to bend in the middle due to its integrated leather core and carefully cut slots. Because of the angle of the bend, this chair does not require any hardware to be held together. All pieces can lay flat to be packed away in a very thin shipping box. Three pieces that fit together like a glove and nothing else. Bend it.
Flat pack furniture meets fully natural materials. No fasteners, assembled in seconds. Just Bend it.
Furniture doesn't need to be expensive, large or non-renewable. Just Bend it.
